2006 Santino Mediterranean Blend (Red), Sierra Foothills

2006 Santino Mediterranean Blend (Red), Sierra FoothillsIn a setting amidst the pastoral beauty of California’s Shenandoah Valley, Santino Winery stands as a tribute to excellence in winemaking.  Since 1979, Santino has been producing wines from the soil of Amador County.

Winemaker’s Notes

In this blend we sought to make a wine that reflected the culture and tradition of a Mediterranean lifestyle. The romance of the blue sea, stark white buildings and rugged coastline inspired our winemaking team. We chose to use Zinfandel, Primitivo and Petite Sirah to make a wine which we feel embodies the flavor of this region. The Zinfandel adds flavor and aroma; Primitivo gives nuance and spice; the Petite Sirah adds color and structure. Medium bodied, with good flavor and nice mouthfeel, this wine will pair with many different foods or can be enjoyed on its own.

Vintage

The growing season of 2006 was about as average as a California year could possibly be.  Normal levels of rainfall, not too hot or too cold, the usual hot summer and blessedly no rain at harvest.
