2006 Santino Eco Pinot Grigio, El Dorado, Roberto's Block

2006 Santino Eco Pinot Grigio, El Dorado, Roberto's BlockIn a setting amidst the pastoral beauty of California’s Shenandoah Valley, Santino Winery stands as a tribute to excellence in winemaking.  Since 1979, Santino has been producing wines from the soil of Amador County.

Winemaker’s Notes

While most of the Pinot Grigio from Northern Italy is light bodied and made in an easy to drink style we chose to make a more full bodied wine. The grapes are picked at their maximum ripeness and whole cluster pressed. The juice is barrel fermented in French Oak and after the fermentation is over the wine sits “Sur-Lie” in the barrel for six months. This process gives the wine a rich, creamy mouth-feel and luscious texture. Roberto’s Block is a south facing terrace in our Twin Rivers Vineyard in El Dorado. This wine is well matched with grilled Salmon, heavy cream sauces, and roasted chicken dishes.

Vintage

The growing season of 2006 was about as average as a California year could possibly be.  Normal levels of rainfall, not too hot or too cold, the usual hot summer and blessedly no rain at harvest.
